Westausgang
This 5 screen installation by Angela Zumpe consciously shows the injuries left by the 20th century in the region of Sachsen-Anhalt. A century made of bellicose confrontation that left sociopolitical, economical and ideological traces and wounds. The complexity of the current social, economical and cultural transformation processes - of the diverging perceptions of social and political groups of interest - makes a neutral and non-ideological perspective difficult. Therefore it is necessary to establish a new form of conveying messages, one that will enable everyone to contemplate collectively, without falling into alleged conflicts of interest. The soundtrack tied all the disparate elements and themes of the work together, providing an emotional landscape and depth to the piece, which transcended cultural and linguistic barriers.
