Dear Esther
A game by thechineseroom featuring music by Jessica Curry. A deserted island...a lost man...memories of a fatal crash...a book written by a dying explorer. Dear Esther is an interactive narrative built using first-person game technologies. It presents a virtual environment to be freely explored by the player, which contains a large number of visual and audio triggers. As the player explores they trigger fragments of narrative, sound and music, slowly re-assembling the pieces of a story. The commissioned music operates as an agent in the world, deepening the emotional experience, and operating alongside the voice-overs to cast new perspectives upon the story. Dear Esther will be released in summer 2011. Please visit the game's website for more information. “It's the wonderful, haunting music that carried us through the entire experience.” GamesTM “ a wildly original piece of storytelling with atmospheric music featuring mournful piano, strings and distorted soundscapes.” PC Zone Magazine "The way the music and narration blend during Dear Esther is spellbinding." Resolution Magazine "The music is of startlingly high quality…and complements the narration in building the atmosphere and sense of place for each of the island’s locations." Game Central
